Environmental Impact of Flights - Are you willing to pay?

14th November 2007

The International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), in association with the International Centre for Responsible Travel has come up with some recommedations that are likely to cause some debate.

The report has been launched to mark World Travel Market's World Responsible Tourism Day and recommends ways to reduce travel and tourism contribution to climate change quickly and easily.

The recommendations include:

  1. The impact of airlines on the environment to be reflected in ticket prices.
  2. The reduction of baggage allowances
  3. A full investigation of airport expansion
  4. Real and standardised reporting of airline emissions and eco-labelling of flights.
  5. Standard fuel-use reporting by airlines.
