Hawaii Island is called Big Island to avoid confusion between the island and the Hawaii state. It is the largest island in the United States. The island was formed when 5 volcanoes erupted sequentially and it is famous today for the active Kilauea volcano. Hilo is the capital of the island which is 93 miles across. Kailua Kona is a seaside town located at the bottom of the Hualalai Volcano. It is located just 7 miles south of the airport. Attractions in the area include Kailua Konas Hulihee Palace, Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park, Captain Cooks Monument and the Kona Coffee industries numerous farms and mills. Activities on offer include tennis, swimming, diving, surfing, fishing, golf, horse riding, paragliding and moutain biking. The Ironman Triathlon is held here every year.

Honolulu is the capital and largest city of the state of Hawaii. It is the center of government, transportation, and commerce for the state; home to a population of nearly one million people in the metro area and Hawaii's best known tourist destination, Waikiki Beach. The name Honolulu means "sheltered bay" or "peace of shelter" in Hawaiian. Honolulu has a very moderate climate, with very little change of temperature throughout the year. The area offers lots for tourists from fabulous beaches, stunning scenery and interesting landmarks.
