Contact usEcuador has launched a sustainable tourism development plan in a bid to double international visitor arrivals by 2020.
It will focus on The Galapagos, the coastline, the Andes and the Amazon and is called Plandetur 2020.
Ecuador Tourism is planning to invest just under $198 million by 2020, with $75million will be used to develop tourism facilities, enhance infrastructure and introduce sustainable tourism practices in nature reserves and conservation areas.
In 2006 the country welcomed just over 840,000 international visitors (118,000 Europeans of which 32,770 were Spanish and 24,344 were British) and plans to increase to more than two million by 2020.
