Panama Guide

4th April 2009
Location of Panama
Panama is the southernmost country of Central America. It is bordered by Costa Rica in the north-west, Colombia to the south-east, the Caribbean Sea to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south.

Small and amazingly diverse, Panama makes it possible for a traveler to visit not only two different oceans in one day, but be able to combine in less than a week a diversified natural experience (white sand beaches, cloud or rain forest, mountains or valleys) with a wide range of cultural experiences (seven Indian tribes, Afroantillian and Spanish Colonial culture, several historic monuments and a 300 year old World Heritage Site called Casco Antiguo (often referred as Casco Viejo, Panama Viejo, San Felipe or Catedral)

Activities in the Bocas del Toro ArchipelagoBocas del Toro is located on Colon Island, one of the 9 islands making up the Bocas del Toro Archipelago. It offers white-sand beaches on the exposed Caribbean side, boat trips on the sheltered lagoon side, and everywhere opportunities for swimming, snorkeling, diving and sunbathing.

The area is rich in wildlife. The first marine reserve in Panama was created in 1988 - the Bastimentos Island National Marine Park. A 33,000 acre park with stunning underwater scenery to be viewed either by snorkeling or scuba diving along the coral reefs. And to the north of Isla Colon is Swan Cay, a bird sanctuary with a variety of local and migratory species. Four species of endangered sea turtles still visit the waters of Bocas and the turtles come ashore in great numbers to lay their eggs on the north side of the islands and some stretches of the mainland coast in season.

Boquete is a small town tucked into the green mountain highlands of Panama, in western-most Chiriquí Province.

Because of its altitude, some 1,200 metres above sea level, its climate is refreshingly cooler than that of the lowlands. Its scenic location, temperature, and natural environment make it extremely popular with Panamanians, and with tourists from all over the world.
