Description
La Borie is a large stone-built country farmhouse dating back from the early years of the XVIII century and has been fully renovated. There are 3 living-rooms (kitchen/dining, dining-room and lounge), and 5 bedrooms (3 with ensuite bathrooms and 2 sharing another bathroom).
The property is situated on the slope of a wooden hill, a few miles from the Dordogne river valley and is very secluded and peaceful.
It faces the fortified medieval village of Belvès, perched at the top of a hill, about 2 miles across the valley, where the local market takes place, every saturday morning, in the centre of the village.
Two golf courses are nearby, one of theman 18 hole, the superb course of Lolivarie is situated less 10 minutes drive from La Borie. If you enjoy rambling, you can leave directly from the house to enjoy kilometers of forests and discover an abundant wildlife.
This part of the Dordogne belongs to the Périgord Noir, called like that because of the dark bark of the oak trees which are very common in the local forests and not, as some have imagined, because of the black truffles found here in January.
At St Amand de Belvès, you are at the most southern part of the Dordogne, almost half way between Bergerac and Cahors.
Acres of meadows and woods (mainly oaks and walnut trees) surround the property, but the medieval villages and castles of Beynac, Castelnau, Domme, La Roque-Gageac or Montpazier are all within a short drive.
The well preserved medieval town of Sarlat is only half an hour from La Borie, the Lascaux caves and Les Eyzies about one hours drive.
