Guestbook Text
The hotel is a beautifully restored building from the Middle Ages. The hosts are very gracious and accommodating. It is well located with connections to Lausanne by suburban train (6 Min.) and trolley bus (15 Min.) with frequent service. You feel like part of the community and not a tourist.
Just back from 5 days at Le Bourg 7 with my wife and 15 year old son. It was a holiday that was been more refreshing than many two week holidays I have been on.
Anna Martin has created a beautiful set of apartments in one of the most beautiful parts of the world I have ever visited. Although they arenot enormous the apartments are very thoughtfully and beautifully laid out. The building itself is set amongst the winding alleys of medieval Lutry but from the moment you enter it is like you have stepped into a small version of one of the Firmdale Hotels. For those of you who are unfamiliar they are a small boutique chain in London including the Covent Garden, Haymarket and Charlotte Street.
The bathrooms are very clever with great showers and spa bath. The bed was terrific and the sofa bed for my son was great. There is quick and free wi-fi in every room which was a real bonus for the facebook/twitter addicts amongst us.
Lutry is a wonderful place. The Romans first used Chateau Chillon on Lake Geneva as a fortress to separate northern and southern Europe and Lutry feels like the perfect mix of Mediterranean cool and Swiss efficiency. It\'s not cheap as a destination but it is worth every penny.
I recommend eating the best Pizza (better than many in Trastevere in Rome) at La Barca on the harbor front; fillets of lake perch with frites washed down with the spectacular local wine at Cafe de la Poste also in the harbor (fish and chips will never be the same) and anything they serve at the Buvette (beach cafe) at the far left end of the village.
There is so much to do and exercise is so readily and naturally available that gyms would go out of business.
Walks along the lake are beautiful and well signposted. This is true of walks in the vineyards. Follow the yellow arrows and signs to Grandvaux for a wonderful day out. Swimming in the lake is a real treat. It is cold but you get used to it very quickly. There are diving boards and sun bathing platforms everywhere. You can run and rollerblade everywhere if that is your thing.
Do take the boat to Montreux and visit Chillon. There is a great market on Friday. The other thing we did which will live forever is catch the train to St Maurice ( a beautiful Swiss village) then take a ten minute bus ride to Lavey Les Bains which are the warmest thermal spa waters in the country. Look them up on Google but go. You wont regret it.
Thank you so much Anna for creating Le Bourg 7. We cannot wait to come back and that is even the feeling of our typically cynical 15 year old.
