The siren Calypso is probably the island's best known legendary inhabitant, who kept Ulysses on her island for seven years. Gozo boasts of having the world's oldest free standing structures, the Ggantija temples and numerous other important landmarks. One can find tiny fishing villages straddling hilltops and fertile farmland.
Xlendi is situated on the south-east coast of Gozo, about 3Km south of the capital Victoria. The historic tower looking over Xlendi from the mouth of the bay is a true trade mark of this picturesque fishing village.
