  • Tourism Australia announce Monster.com partnership

Australian tourism businesses struggling to fill temporary positions are being encouraged to milk a recently launched online jobs board, permitting them to upload job vacancies at no cost.

The partnership between Tourism Australia and Monster.com allows businesses to promote temporary jobs to Australian travellers and international Working Holiday Makers looking for seasonal work as they travel the rustic.

Businesses purchasing for temporary or casual staff can upload unlimited job ads at no cost until 1 March 2014. The roles are visible to over 1.5 million job seekers each month on a dedicated working holiday site bestjobs.careerone.com.au and around the CareerOne network.

Tourism Australia Managing Director Andrew McEvoy said this week’s high profile Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) was an excellent platform to elevate awareness of the brand new service amongst Australian tourism operators and all 700 Australian sellers at this year’s event have been encouraged to use the service.

“Finding people to fill temporary job vacancies is an argument many tourism operators struggle with, particularly given the seasonal nature of the business,” Mr McEvoy said.

“Our industry currently has around 36,000 temporary jobs which need filling. What the brand new ‘jobs board’ does is match job seekers to lots of those hard to fill temporary vacancies, that is a major win-win for the industry and for youth travellers.

“Whether it’s temporary staff to show down beds, wait tables, serve coffees or help out as a tourism guide, many operators can get pleasure from this new site. My advice to businesses with hard to fill temporary jobs is to register now,” he added.

The site has already received over 36,000 unique visits within the six weeks because it was launched and can also be being promoted by Tourism Australia to greater than 430,000 fans on its Australian Working Holiday Facebook page.

The new jobs board have been developed to aid support Tourism Australia’s ‘Best Jobs inside the World’ competition, a brand new global youth push to draw more working holiday makers to Australia.

“With most of the world’s economies stagnating and with youth unemployment at the rise, there hasn’t ever been a neater time to take a working holiday in Australia and doubtless never a closer opportunity of finding suitable work,” Mr McEvoy said.

Ben Foote from Monster.com said the recent dedicated temporary jobs portal already had over 1200 pre-loaded and was expecting that number to extend significantly as more Australian businesses became accustomed to 12 month free jobs upload service.

“As one of the vital largest and most desirable employment sites on this planet we believe we’ve got the dimensions and scale to assist match many international visitors to temporary positions which desperately need filling in all parts of the rustic,” Mr Foote said.

In addition to the brand new jobs board, a web-based ‘jobs widget’ have been developed which businesses in Australia and overseas can embed into their very own website, allowing visitors to look for temporary positions while they research, plan and book their Australian holiday.

The launch of Tourism Australia’s ‘Best Jobs inside the World’ competition comes at the back of robust growth within the variety of Working Holiday Makers coming to Australia. Nearly 140,000 WHM visas were granted within the last six months of 2012, 23.2 per cent higher than a similar period in 2011.

In 2012, Working Holiday Makers contributed A$2.5 billion to the Australian economy, each spending on average in way over A$13,000 during their stay.

Australian businesses wishing to promote a brief position should go online to http://workingholidayjobs.careerone.com.au, where they are able to quickly and simply upload details of the job.

The Monster.com jobs board complements ‘Discover Your Career’, a free career and jobseeker resource for the Australian tourism and hospitality industry earlier this year by the National Tourism Alliance.
