  • Choice Hotels International and Booking.com sign corporate agreement

    Choice Hotels International, Inc, among the world’s largest lodging franchisors, today announced that it has entered right into a global corporate agreement with Booking.com, a number one online travel agency (OTA), that pulls over 30 million unique online visitors from both leisure and business markets worldwide.

    This agreement with Booking.com expands the reach of the alternative Hotels brands to millions of shoppers in 180 countries and helps Choice Hotels develop future business relationships, especially within the international arena where Choice Hotels has a robust presence.

    “Our guests are constantly changing the manner they shop for and book hotels. Choice Hotels is to ensure that we stay alongside of consumers and offer the most effective rates and options online to satisfy their needs.     The agreement also provides both parties with flexible terms and selection Hotels with the chance to diversify global relationships with leading OTAs and expand its online presence to achieve new customers and continue driving record traffic to its franchise hotels. It also gives consumers who’ve Booking.com as their preferred online travel site, access to approximately 6,200 hotels worldwide the selection Hotels system.

  • Tourism Australia has another world record in its sights

    Sydney photographers, bloggers, instagrammers and tweeters are being invited to Bondi this Saturday (23 March 2013) to sign up for Colby Brown, considered one of America’s most influential photography bloggers try to set a brand new world record for the most important ever ‘photo-walk’.

    The Bronte to Bondi Photo Walk is supported by Google, Samsung and Destination NSW and is a part of a brand new Tourism Australia program, targeting digital influencers and opinion leaders, inviting them to share their images and experiences of Australia with their extensive social media followings.

    Colby is a pro photographer based in Denver, Colorado and has 2.3 million followers on Google+.

    “Australia has this sort of vibrant and active photography community that may be known world wide. I instantly knew that i wished to do a photograph walk in Sydney since it is the sort of beautiful location and provides an excellent opportunity to bring that thriving community together to celebrate and showcase much of what town has to supply the arena,” Colby Brown said.

    Tourism Australia Managing Director Andrew McEvoy said that the integration of Colby’s photographic talent and big following of fans provided a strong platform to showcase a number of Australia’s ideal tourism experiences.

    “With greater than four million fans, we have already got the most important destination Facebook fan page on this planet, and apparently we only need about 300 people to enroll in Colby in this Bronte-Bondi Photo Walk to make it a brand new world record for Australia,” Mr McEvoy said.

    As well because the photo walk, Colby Brown might be also playing Google+ ‘Hangouts’ during his Australian trip, which also take up the natural landscapes and scenery of South Australia, Tasmanian, Victoria and Western Australia.

    A selection of leading Australian digital influencers are supporting the realm record bid, including South Sydney photographer Michael Sutton, who will accompany Colby and share his own photos taken in the course of the walk along with his 52,000 Google+ followers.

    The world record for a photograph-walk is currently held by another prominent US photography blogger, Trey Ratcliff. It happened in Melbourne in January and was attended by 289 people.

    The Bronte to Bondi Photo Walk happens on Saturday 23 March: starting at Bronte Beach at 3pm and finishing at the North Bondi grassy knoll around sunset.

    Participants taking the appropriate photograph can win as much as $8,000 worth of prizes, including cameras and photography equipment in addition to Bridgeclimb vouchers.

    Colby and Michael will both be posting real-time updates of the photo-walk on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google+. The hashtags for the photo-walk are #Bondi2013 and #SeeAustralia

  • News: IHG plans major expansion in Russia

    IHG has signed a franchise multiple development agreement (MDA) with Regional Hotel Chain to develop 15 new hotels in Russia by 2019, which, when open, will double the scale of IHG’s estate there because it stands today, and can introduce the vacation Inn Express brand to the region for the 1st time.

    The 15 new Holiday Inn Express hotels will add approximately 2,250 rooms, when signed, to IHG’s current Russia development pipeline of over 1,700 rooms (5 hotels).

    The locations for the primary two of those hotels are Chelyabinsk and Voronezh. Holiday Inn Express Voronezh – Kirova is because of open within the second half 2014 and

    Holiday Inn Express Chelyabinsk – Central Station, is scheduled to open in summer 2015.

    IHG’s chief executive officer, Europe, Angela Brav said:  “This is a breakthrough for IHG in Russia. It marks the debut of the vacation Inn Express brand there and, when the hotels open we shall have doubled the dimensions of our system because it stands in Russia today, creating a significant step towards our ambition to be market leaders.”

    The Holiday Inn Express brand is designed to be the smart choice for value-conscious business and leisure travellers.

    IHG previously announced plans to have 100 hotels across Russia and the rest of the CIS open and inside the pipeline by 2020.

    The company said it’ll work with local investors to introduce managed and franchised hotels around the country, where there’s a need for internationally branded hotels.  Its expansion shall be driven by growth in regional centres and new fast-growing cities with well-established business communities and tourist attractions.

    IHG has 13 hotels (3,894 rooms) open in Russia, with another 5 hotels (1,773 rooms) within the pipeline so that it will open within the next 3 to five years.

  • Hotel pipeline growth in Africa accelerates

    Research by W Hospitality Group, the award-winning consultancy and among the founding members of Hotel Partners Africa (HPA), reveals that the selection of planned new hotel rooms inside the Hotel Development Pipeline in Africa has increased by 16 per cent on last year, which was 12 per cent up on 2011.  Here’s in accordance with a sample of 29 international hotel chains, with 59 brands between them, and analyses deals that they’ve signed with owners.

    As in previous years, the detail behind the headline shows a special tale of 2 Africas. In North Africa, the construction pipeline grew by 9 per cent, from 17,217 planned new hotelrooms in 2012 to 18,782 rooms in 77 hotels in 2013.  In sub-Saharan Africa, however, the chains’ pipeline now stands at 21,052 rooms in 130 hotels, up from 17,109 rooms in 100 hotels a year ago – an enormous 23 per cent increase.  This compares to 4 per cent growth in Europe and eight.6 per cent growth in Asia Pacific, in accordance with data produced by STR Global (although the expansion in Africa is from a far lower base).

    Trevor Ward, Managing Director of W Hospitality Group said: “The main reasons for the slower growth in North Africa include the outlet of hotels within the 2012 pipeline, particularly in Algeria, a discounted investment give attention to North Africa as a result of political concerns and a better emphasis on development in sub-Saharan markets.

    “There is a boom in Africa, in all sectors, including hotels.  Economic growth in lots of countries is 6 per cent or higher and global investors are taking a look at the continent in a far more serious and complex way.  We’re being contacted by more and more dedicated investment funds looking to enter the African hotel market.”

    The five countries of North Africa all appear inside the top ten countries for brand spanking new hotels, led by Egypt (7,644 planned new hotel rooms), Morocco (5,178) and Algeria (3,160).  In sub-Saharan Africa, Nigeria has by far the biggest pipeline, with 7,470 planned new rooms.  The businesses leading the best way are Hilton Worldwide with 6,230 rooms in its African pipeline, Carlson Rezidor with 5,947, Accor with 5,165 and Marriott with 3,900.

    Said Ward: “The major international brands are still blazing the path, led by Hilton Worldwide, forging ahead with 6,230 planned new rooms for Hilton, Doubletree and Garden Inn brands, a unprecedented 84% increase on 2012.  And it is very encouraging to peer new brands entering the market, including Campanile, Dusit, easyHotel, Fairmont, Hyatt Place and W.  This shows the boldness of the hotel chains not only within the continent conceptually, but in addition as somewhere where they could diversify their brand footprint.”
