  • New appointment for Fairmont Hotels

    Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has named Carmen Lam as vice chairman, hotel sales and marketing, Asia Pacific. Lam, who may be based in Shanghai, joins Fairmont on this newly created role to offer sales and marketing direction to Fairmont’s impressive hotels in Asia Pacific and support to the posh operator’s burgeoning pipeline of regional development.

    “We’re quickly growing our footprint in Asia and are very fortunate to be adding a pacesetter of Carmen’s caliber to our regional management team,” said, Jeff Doane, Fairmont’s vp, hotel sales and marketing. “With her wealth of hotel related experience and firm understanding of the regional marketplace, she’s ideally positioned to lead our sales, marketing and branding activity throughout Asia.”

    With six hotels open and operating in Asia, including three in China, Lam will give attention to maximizing results and driving performance for this dynamic mixture of resort and town center properties. She’ll even be liable for executing Fairmont’s regional sales strategy, regional brand management, and awareness and marketing activity for brand spanking new hotels including announced Fairmont projects in Jakarta, Bali and several other cities in China.

    Lam arrives at Fairmont having previously served as senior vp, leisure & brand sales and marketing for Hong Kong/Macau-based Melco Crown Entertainment. Over the process a career that has spanned greater than twenty years, Lam has also held a sequence of management positions with leading brands in Asia including roles with Shangri-La Hotels and InterContinental Hotels Group.

    Lam holds an Executive MBA from Canada’s Richard Ivey School of commercial – University of Western, a Bachelor of economic Administration from the University of Hawaii and an Executive Leadership designation from Cornell University. Lam may be pursuing a Doctorate on the School of Hotel and Tourism Management on the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

  • Cape Town Tourism announces new chief executive

    After an intensive recruitment process, the brand new chief executive of Cape Town Tourism have been announced as Enver Duminy.

    Duminy has held the title of tourism services executive manager at Cape Town Tourism for nearly four years and has played an active role in crafting Cape Town Tourism’s new three-year Marketing strategy.

    He will soak up his new post on August 1st.

    He has built firm relationships at different levels in the tourism industry; a background to be able to form his new role and enable him in order for the organisation continues to feature value to the industry.

    Duminy said: “It’s an honour to just accept this post of chief executive with humility and appreciation of the service will probably be to the tourism industry of Cape Town.

    “Cape Town Tourism is an agile, innovative, and passionate organization, and we can continue to uphold these values as I take the helm.

    “As incumbent, I plan to focus my first 100 days on setting the roadmap with the Cape Town Tourism team as to how we’ll deliver our agreed strategic objectives and tactical plans.”

  • Peru to host World Travel Awards in Latin America

    World Travel Awards has confirmed it is going to head to Lima, Peru, for its first South America Gala Ceremony on July 20th.

    Peru becomes the primary South American host of the development during its 20 year history.

    The glittering red carpet event will occur on the site of the traditional Huaca Pucllana temple, located inside the central Miraflores district, within the heart of the town.

    World Travel Awards was launched in 1993 to recognise, acknowledge and reward excellence within the global travel, tourism and hospitality industry.

    Viceroy Hotel Group, an iconic presence within the luxury hospitality sector, is pleased to announce the appointment of Jane O’Shea as Regional Director of Sales & Marketing of the first actual Regional Sales Office for the Viceroy Hotel Group within the UK.

    Jane, who can be located in central London, could be installing a dedicated UK Regional Sales office for the crowd and oversee the management of sales and marketing, predominantly within the UK, but in addition within Ireland and Scandinavia, effective immediately.

    Jane brings twenty years of progressive sales experience to the role, having worked with several top-tier hotels and resorts.

    Proceeding her role at LUX* Resorts, Jane was Director of world Sales at Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts where she oversaw the seven hotels located within the Middle East, London and US and deploy the 1st Jumeirah Regional Sales Office.
