  • News: GIBTM: Event Camp Middle East 2013 goes live

    In a primary for the center East, GIBTM 2013 has given delegates a glimpse of ways technology will shape events sooner or later, becoming the 1st show within the region to provide the hybrid event initiative Event Camp Middle East 2013.

    This hybrid format included seminar sessions fascinated by technological advances impacting the meetings industry, broadcast from both the show floor and streamed online from destinations as far afield because the US and Australia.

    It extended GIBTM’s reach to a web-based global audience of 16,000 users across ten countries in precisely two hours.

    “By pioneering this hybrid format we’ve taken GIBTM out of the four walls of the show floor to a world audience,” said Lois Hall, exhibition manager, GIBTM.

    The event kicked off at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) yesterday and runs until tomorrow.

    “We recognise the significance of technology and social media in shaping content and how wherein meetings’ professionals are connecting now and the way they’ll accomplish that someday, that is why this year’s show has embraced these ground-breaking trends.”

    The session took on added relevance when it was reiterated that the center East was the fastest growing region for twitter users with 2.1 million recorded in June 2012, while in November 2012 the center East and North Africa (MENA) region had 45 million Facebook users, 50 per cent of whom accessed the media via mobile.

  • News: Secretary of State for Transport to communicate at ABTA’s Travel Matters 2013

    ABTA today announced that the Secretary of State for Transport, the Rt. Hon. Patrick McLoughlin MP, will deliver the keynote address at Travel Matters on 26 June 2013.  Now in its fourth year, this invitation-only conference will offer delegates a completely unique opportunity to listen to from, and interact with a superb line-up of speakers from Government and the industry.

    Delegates at Travel Matters 2013, going down at Millbank Media Centre in Westminster, will discuss and debate aviation capacity, the competitiveness of the UK’s travel and tourism sector, tourism’s Olympic legacy, and the opportunities, challenges and barriers to inspiring business and consumer confidence, under the theme “An Agenda for Growth”.

    The Secretary of State will speak alongside ABTA’s Chief Executive, Mark Tanzer, and there’ll be an industry perspective keynote from Craig Kreeger, Virgin Atlantic’s new Chief Executive Officer.

  • News: Jumeirah dims down for Earth Hour

    On Saturday 23th March 2013 at 20:30, Jumeirah Group joined the arena in celebrating the once a year global ‘Earth Hour’ with its luxury properties world wide dimming their lights for an hour.

    In Dubai, Burj Al Arab extinguished all non-essential lights. Jumeriah Zabeel Saray turned off all exterior lights, in addition to dimming lights in its restaurants, lounges, meeting rooms, spa areas and the lobby. Jumeirah Emirates Towers turned off its cold cathode lights within the lower and upper atrium balcony in addition to lights at the ramps, facade and the fins on both the hotel and office towers. Madinat Jumeirah including Al Qasr, Dar Al Masyaf and Mina Al Salam also took part by switching off the complete external and internal non-essential lighting for one hour; and Jumeirah Living World Trade Centre ensured that every one computers, non-essential lights and water features were switched off, besides the external lights. Jumeirah Beach Hotel turned off exterior lights, conference center lights, tennis court area flood lamps, roof top flag focusing lights, flood lights and the lights inside the hotel atrium.

    In Abu Dhabi, Jumeirah at Etihad Towers turned off all external lighting leaving the building beautifully silhouetted against the moonlit night. And in London Jumeirah Carlton Tower and Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel showed support by turning off all external lights, dimming lights within the lobby, installing candles in all public areas and serving guests dinner by candlelight.

    In the Maldives, Jumeirah Vittaveli and Jumeirah Dhevanafushi served their guests candlelit dinners and organized yoga and other activities by candlelight. And in Shanghai Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel extinguished your complete exterior LED lighting at the building and invited guests to change off their room lights – which most of them chose to do.

    Pera Palace Hotel, Jumeirah in Istanbul switched off its exterior lights; while Jumeirah Port Soller in Mallorca, Spain, ensured that each one non-essential lighting was either off or dimmed, including the façade of the hotel. Jumeirah Port Soller, a LEED certified hotel which opened in April 2013, was designed to be energy efficient. Each of the Jumeirah restaurant outlets also took part in Earth Hour.

    Earth Hour originally started in Sydney on 31st March 2007, when 2.2 million people and a couple of,100 businesses turned off their lights for one hour. Many major cities, inspired by the collective effort, have since joined Earth Hour, making this a worldwide movement. In 2008, Dubai became the primary city within the Middle East to participate within the event and Jumeirah have been an active participant ever since. All Earth Hour events are designed with guest safety in mind and which will reminding people to guard our environment for future generations.
