  • Davies steps as much as global front of house leadership role

    Darin Davies, director of front house operations on the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai, has recently been appointed president of the Association for Front Office Managers & Deputy Managers of Luxury Hotels.

    AICR was founded in 1964 by front office leader of several grand hotels within the south of France.

    The international organisation is represented in 15 countries and has slightly below 1,000 members and gives front office managers of luxury hotels with a useful network offering which include organising the coveted David Campbell Trophy.

    Darin’s role as president will give him a good insight into the hospitality industry.

    His new roles and responsibilities will include liaising with members worldwide, expanding the association, planning for the following presidium and receptionist of the year competition in Hamburg.

    Commenting at the appointment JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai general manager, Rupprecht Queitsch said: “When hiring the hotels 1,000 associates, we ensured that we recruited higher levels of expertise in hospitality and where possible, the Marriott brand.

    “I was therefore delighted to listen to that Darin have been appointed any such prestigious and influential role within AICR.

    More than 26 million Brits1(41%) are packing in two to four social arrangements per weeknight and two-thirds (59%) admit to leaving social events early for fear of missing out on something better in keeping with new research* by lastminute.com, the UK’s largest online hotel, travel and leisure specialist. The research has uncovered a brand new form of ‘iSocial Butterfly’ behaviour amongst Brits because the use of social media and smart phone technology begins to steer the manner we socialise and relate to others.

    Almost 1/2 all those surveyed (42%) admit that it’s social media and smartphone technology that has enabled them to act more spontaneously; with an ever-changeable social calendar available on the tap of a marginally screen.  With this in mind, friends checking-in to ‘better options’ on Facebook appears to be like influencing the typical dwell time of 97 minutes at a celebration (to be polite) and the 59% of respondents who wouldn’t think carefully about ditching one social event half-way through.

    With 1 / 4 of Brits (23%) now preferring to devise their entire social schedule using social media, with Facebook as their preferred platform, online technology looks making us more spontaneous in our arrangements.

    TV’s favourite neuroscientist, Dr Jack Lewis comments, “The emergence of the Social Butterfly is a transparent reflection of the impact of recent technology on brain areas excited about juggling pleasure prediction, social interactions and decision making. Typically all of us hate to overlook out on any potentially important event because we naturally wish to maximise our pleasure. Besides, we feel guilty after we need to let people down; by saying no to family and friends. So now that smartphones and the net encourage us to constantly interact with our social networks we will find ourselves inundated with such a lot of social options it may become very difficult to select from them. So we don’t – we just accept all of them!”

  • News: UK Summer timetables confirmed travel from Nottingham to Lincolnshire

    Nottingham’s railway is undergoing its biggest transformation in a generation.  a prime improvement scheme is currently ongoing to redevelop Nottingham station right into a world-class transport hub, and Network Rail will shortly begin work on a £100 million project to rebuild the rail infrastructure across the city.  This scheme can help to future-proof Nottingham’s railway for the increasing collection of passengers and deliver improved reliability.

    As as a result of the most important work being performed by Network Rail in the course of the summer, there’ll be significant changes to East Midlands Trains services on routes to and from Nottingham between Saturday 20 July and Sunday 25 August.   

    From 11 April, timetables for the complete affected routes could be available to download at eastmidlandstrains.co.uk/nottingham, at the side of advice and knowledge for passengers travelling to and from Nottingham over the summer.

    David Horne, Managing Director for East Midlands Trains, said: “This is an important scheme for Nottingham and person who will create a far better, more reliable railway for passengers. 

    “The variety of passengers travelling on our services throughout the summer months is usually quieter than other times of the year.  However we recognise that many passengers do use our services to travel between Nottingham and Skegness over the summer holidays, and we now have worked hard to keep the absolute best service for our passengers in this route and to maintain them at the move within the summer.

    “Train services will continue to run between Grantham and Skegness and Newark Castle to Lincoln always.  As well, on 23 out of the 37 days of Network Rail’s re-signalling work, we can run direct train services from Nottingham to Skegness.

    “The publication of the timetable today marks a major breakthrough within the project and will provide passengers with all of the information they have to plan their travel well prior to the summer. 

    “Our advice for passengers is to be prepared and sign up advance of travel at eastmidlandstrains.co.uk/nottingham.”

    Justin Page, Acting Route Managing Director for Network Rail, said: “We’re spending £100m to fully rebuild the railway through Nottingham.

    “It is the most important development at the network on this area for a generation and may transform the reliability of services and the versatility of the station.

    “We’re using modern equipment to interchange 1960s-style signalling, setting up a brand new platform and relaying six miles of track, to make a genuine difference to the manner trains run within the city.
    “There will inevitably be some short term disruption during an investment of this scale and that i sincerely apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause, but this about investing for future generations inside the heart of the East Midlands.”

    Summary of services to/from Nottingham to Skegness and Lincoln from Saturday 20 July to Sunday 25 August:

    ·      Nottingham to Lincoln
    Train services will continue to run from Newark Castle to Lincoln inside the re-signalling work.

    From Saturday 20 July to Friday 9 August and at the weekend of 24/25 August, connecting bus services will run between Newark Castle and Nottingham, with an hourly bus service from Rolleston, Fiskerton, Bleasby, Thurgaton, Lowdham, Burton Joyce and Carlton to Nottingham.

    From 10 August to 23 August, trains would be running between Nottingham and Lincoln (between 0800-2000).  Services will follow the standard calling patterns with slightly extended journey times.

    There may also be an hourly express bus service between Newark and East Midlands Parkway, connecting to services to Leicester and beyond inside the re-signalling work.

    Stations affected: Carlton, Burton Joyce, Lowdham, Thurgaton, Bleasby, Fiskerton, Rolleston

    ·      Nottingham to Skegness
    Train services will continue to run between Grantham and Skegness perpetually. 

    Direct train services can also be running between Nottingham and Skegness at the following days (between 0800-2000):

    Monday 22 July to Friday 26 July
    Monday 12 August to Friday 23 August

    Weekends
    Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July
    Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 July

    At all other times, an hourly bus service will run between Nottingham and Grantham with an hourly train service connecting at Grantham for services through to Skegness.  There’ll even be an hourly express bus service from Grantham to East Midlands Parkway within the day to glue in with services to Leicester/Liverpool and Norwich.

    Four hundred people attended the sensational grand opening party of the 255-room Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort in Phuket, 4 April. Guest of honour, Phuket Governor Maitri Inthusut, cut the hole ribbon such as Outrigger senior executives and the company’s founding members of the family who had flown in from Hawaii for the occasion.

    Others flew in from Japan, Korea, Australia, Germany and the united kingdom. Outrigger cultural ambassador Kaipo Ho sang a normal Hawaiian blessing to turn gratitude to the Thai hosts. On a unique night characterized by the straightforward mixing of Hawaiian and Thai hospitality, Outrigger family played a key role within the celebrations, including, Dr. Richard R.
