  • Focus: Fashion and gadget summer holiday essentials for 2013

It’s no accident that spring’s fashion weeks coincide with technology conferences and new phone launches. Samsung chose to unveil its much-anticipated S4 in Times Square just weeks after Chanel unveiled designer Karl Lagerfield’s hula-hoop bag. While the S4 may prove to be a way more popular purchase, even hula-hoop bags could have an area on this 2013 round-up of summer holiday musts.

    Gadget: the travel-friendly Smartphone
Move over, iPhone. The S4 launch was their most secretive and largest yet, with Samsung renting out New York’s Radio City Music Hall and making a feature-length performance advertising the S4’s features. These include a built-in translator and TripAdvisor app—making the S4 one of the crucial travel-friendly phone out there.

Taking a prized Smartphone on holiday can be dangerous: accidents do happen. Alcatel is now selling a £1 phone, that is cheap back-up. The telephone is restricted to texts and contact calls but on a beach in Majorca, that can be all you want.

    Fashion: the hot season’s swimsuit
Despite a brand new swimsuit being probably the most popular items for a summer holiday, only 1 third of ladies actually purchase a brand new bikini each year. This low number may well be as a result of inconvenience and trouble of shopping in stores, so women are adapting. Shopsmart estimates that 27 per cent of girls now do their swimsuit shopping online. For updated patterns, shapes and styles, try the most recent range of swimwear at Very.co.uk.

    Gadget: the portable router
In the tech world, everything is getting more compact and convenient to move. Enter smaller and smaller routers that transform a lacklustre hotel’s connection right into a WiFi paradise. The latest router from Asus is approximately the dimensions of a pack of gum. A USB connector links an Ethernet cable for your laptop and transforms into an online point for all of your gadgets.

    Fashion: the tote bag
This season’s designers tended towards transportable tote bags for his or her collections. With the exemption of the hula-hoop bag, the runway totes seemed both high-fashion and straightforward to wear. On the beach, big bags are a need and by chance, this season’s fashion favours the massive and the bold on the earth of purses.

    Gadget: the Bluetooth keyboard
Taking laptops on holiday is so passé. Just ask Apple: they’ve thrown their marketing efforts into selling the iPad mini like many companies embracing tablets. What’s hard to get around is the irritating touchscreen . . .

And that is where a Bluetooth keyboard turns out to be useful, cordlessly connecting to a tablet to create a tool with all of the advantages of a laptop and not one of the portability issues. They’re thinner and more lightweight than ever and Archos has an iPad-friendly one which is stylish and simple to exploit.

  • News: Maldives moves to outlaw bottled water

Whole World Water announced earlier Maldives president Mohamed Waheed will celebrate World Water Day by signing the entire World Water Referendum for Clean & Safe Water.

The referendum encourages the hospitality and tourism industry to exchange branded bottled water with filtered water sold in recycled, reusable glass bottles.

The plan also sees tourism operators donate ten per cent of the proceeds to the entire World Water Fund.

The Referendum can be signed during an on-air Google+ Hangout.

The Whole World Water Google+ Hangout will highlight how governments can work with the personal sector to drive positive, sustainable change.

Considered a top tourism destination by many, the Maldives is without doubt one of the most vulnerable of the small island states to the results of climate change, and faces acute development challenges similar to a shortage of potable water.

With 28 per cent of the GDP coming from tourism, this industry has a serious role to play in helping to mitigate these challenges.

“What our world urgently should achieve sustained development would require significant changes in what we produce, and the way we consume our resources,” said president Waheed.

“It is my hope that by endorsing this initiative, all hotels and resorts within the Maldives will join Whole World Water and that the Maldives will function a world example of ways governments can work with the personal sector to drive positive, sustainable change for all.”
