  • Three killed in Boston Marathon explosions

    Officials within the Usa have launched an investigation following two explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

    FBI investigators launched a “potential terrorist inquiry” as three people were left dead with upward of 100 more injured.

    At least 17 individuals are critically wounded with injuries including several amputations.

    In a televised address following the incident, president Barack Obama vowed to bring those behind the attack to justice.

    “We will discover who did this.

    “We will discover why they did this,” he said.

    “Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups, will feel the total weight of justice.”

    The first explosion came at about 14:50 local time at the north side of Boylston Street.

    Seconds later another explosion struck the crows approximately 100 metres further back along the course.

    British prime minister David Cameron offered his condolences: “The scenes from Boston are shocking and horrific – my thoughts are with all those that has been affected.”

    Meanwhile officials within the UK said security round the London Marathon can be reviewed after the incident in Boston.

    However, the development will go ahead, after sports minister Hugh Robertson said he was “absolutely confident” it usually is kept safe.

    London had “enormous experience” of delivering major events and the united kingdom had the superior security professionals on this planet, he told the BBC.

    He also said he was “horrified” by the Boston blasts.

  • News: Carnival Dream stranded in Caribbean

    Passengers at the Carnival Dream was stranded within the Caribbean after the ship developed equipment problems.

    The incident comes only a month after passengers were stranded for four days inside the Gulf of Mexico on board the Carnival Triumph in what some described as toxic conditions.

    Several passengers aboard the Carnival Dream, that’s currently docked in Philipsburg, St Maarten within the Caribbean talked of human waste all around the floor in some bathrooms, in addition to power outages.

    According to a press release from the cruise line, Carnival Dream developed a technical issue with the ship’s backup emergency diesel generator.

    “At no time did the ship lose power and the ship’s propulsion systems and first power source was not impacted. 

    “There were periodic interruptions to elevators and restroom services for a number of hours last night,” added the statement.

    Carnival is making arrangements to fly all guests home via private charter flights and scheduled flights from St. Maarten. 

    The cruise line confirmed it is going to cancel the ship’s next voyage that’s scheduled to leave on Saturday, March 16th.

    Guests scheduled to sail in this cruise will receive an entire refund and 25 per cent off a future seven-day cruise. 

    Guests who re-book can have their current rate protected at the future sailing.

  • News: Airbus delivers 100th A380 to Malaysia Airlines

    Malaysia Airlines and Airbus together marked a tremendous achievement earlier, with the hand-over of the 100th A380 to MAS at Airbus’ Henri Ziegler Delivery Centre in Toulouse, France.

    The aircraft is the sixth A380 for MAS.

    “We are delighted that our 100th A380 delivery is to Malaysia Airlines as this offers us an early glimpse into the longer term shape of aviation,” said Fabrice Brégier, Airbus president and chief executive.

    “We see a growing demand from dynamic, competitive airlines which include MAS for larger aircraft, with many markets and routes, and particularly inside the fast developing Asia-Pacific region, being perfectly suited to A380s.”

    Now in its sixth year of industrial service, the A380 is flying with nine world class airlines.

    To date, the global fleet has carried some 36 million passengers in 100,000 flights.

    Previous generation Very Large Aircraft (VLA 400 seats and above) would have required 140,000 flights.

    This reduction in flights brings essential relief to airport-congestion and our surroundings.

    The corresponding saving of five.7 million tonnes of CO2, demonstrates the A380 generates more revenue whilst minimising emissions and noise.

    The A380 fleet performs over 140 flights per day and carries over one and a half million people every month.

    Passengers can hop on board one of many A380s, that are either setting out or landing every six minutes at one of the vital 32 international airports where it operates to this point.

    On top of those, greater than 50 other airports have become prepared to house the A380 and answer the airlines’ need for more A380 destinations.

  • Operator welcomes loosening of Tibetan travel restrictions

    Small group adventure tour operator G Adventures has welcomed the comfort of restrictions for travel to Tibet this year.

    Michael Edwards, managing director, G Adventures argued previous government policies regarding nationalities made it logistically difficult to verify travellers on Tibetan tours.

    “Being ready to travel with people from other countries is a large portion of the G Adventures’ experience, so we welcome these changes which make it easier for our travellers to experience the fantastic thing about Tibet.”

    While there are various restrictions still in place, essentially the mostsome of the most pertinent for travellers and agents seeking to book trips to Tibet are as follows:

    • There is not any longer a minimum collection of travellers required per nationality within a tour group.
    • For trips entering Tibet from China, permits might be granted for tour groups with travellers of 3 nationalities or less. Tours won’t be able to go into Tibet with four or more nationalities of passengers.
    • For trips entering Tibet from Nepal, there aren’t any restrictions at the selection of nationalities allowed per group.
