    In celebration of Easter Holy Week, Semana Santa, the Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel & Spa in Mallorca, has created some attractive promotions including a Spring Break package starting on Palm Sunday, 24 March and culminating on 1 April 2013.

  • TAP Portugal set for Bolsa de Turismo de Lisboa

    TAP Portugal will attend this years’ Bolsa de Turismo de Lisboa (BTL), that is happening in Portugal’s capital, Lisbon.

    BTL is Portugal’s largest travel fair, occurring until March 3rd 2013, and may mark the 25th anniversary of the development.

    Although the show is traditionally referred to as a Portugal’s main tourism fair, it will be the second one year BTL can have representation from the vast majority of Portuguese speaking nations, including Brazil, Mozambique and Angola.

    It is thought that this year will see the only millionth visitor attend the show since its inauguration in 1989, uniting each of the major national and international players within the travel and tourism industry under one roof.

    In partnership with Turismo de Portugal, the tourism body of Portugal, TAP Portugal is sponsoring the BTL Hosted Buyers Program.

    As a part of this TAP should be bringing over 350 travel agents, operators and journalists from various markets across Europe and different tourism sectors, including MICE, Religious tourism and Golf markets, who will then be hosted at some point of the exhibition.

    The programme will aim to spotlight the diversity of destinations TAP Portugal has to provide these sectors, in addition to highlighting the rustic because the leading gateway to North and South America and Africa.

  • Rezidor to open second hotel at Sheremetyevo, Moscow

    Rezidor Hotel Group, one of the crucial fastest growing hotel companies worldwide, has announced the Radisson Blu Sheremetyevo Airport Hotel, Moscow.

    The property, featuring 379 rooms, is scheduled to open within the second quarter of 2014.

    It is Rezidor’s second hotel at Sheremetyevo with the gang already successfully operating a mid market Park Inn by Radisson hotel on the airport.

    The new hotel is owned by the Norwegian company Wenaasgruppen; one among Rezidor’s most crucial multi unit owners.

    In Russia alone, Wenaasgruppen owns nine hotels with a complete of four,000 rooms operated by Rezidor.

    “This agreement further strengthens our position as one of the most leading airport hotel operators in Europe.

    “It also confirms our commitment to the Russian market where we’re the leading international hotel operator,” said Wolfgang Neumann, president of Rezidor.

    The group currently has 45 hotels with 11,600 rooms in operation in Russia/CIS & Baltics, and 29 hotels with 6,700 rooms under development.

    In and around Russia’s Capital City Moscow Rezidor’s portfolio comprises six properties with greater than 1,700 rooms.

    The Radisson Blu Sheremetyevo Airport Hotel stands out as the only hotel featuring an immediate walkway link to the international terminals.

    Besides 379 rooms with Radisson Blu signature services equivalent to free high speed internet access the valuables will offer two restaurants and two bars including a 600m² bar at the 11th floor with a wide ranging view over the airport.

    Additional services will comprise greater than 43 meeting rooms including a 200m² multifunctional hall, a crew lounge, gym and sauna areas.

  • Luxor suspends balloon flights following tragedy

    Hot air balloon flights within the popular Egyptian destination of Luxor was suspended following a tragedy which claimed 19 lives yesterday. 

    Three British visitors, travelling with Thomas Cook, were killed inside the incident which saw a hot air balloon catch fire and explode.

    The balloon was operated by local firm Skycruise.

    Eyewitnesses report it catching fire because it came in to land following a dawn flight over ancient sites nearly Luxor.

    Britons Yvonne Rennie and Joe Bampton and his Hungarian-born partner Suzanna Gyetvai, who was living within the UK, were among 19 passengers killed.

    Egyptian prime minister Hisham Qandil ordered all flights to be suspended while an investigation was implemented.

  • News: Ryanair to appeal EU Commission decision blocking Aer Lingus takeover

    Ryanair has confirmed it could appeal the ecu Commission decision to ban its latest offer for Aer Lingus.

    The low-cost carrier claimed it offered an “historic” and “unprecedented” remedies package that included not one, but two upfront buyers to take over approximately half Aer Lingus’ short-haul business.

    Routes would have gone to British Airways and flybe.

    The transfer to those upfront buyers of Aer Lingus’ business at the 46 crossover routes identified by the european Commission, along with the relevant slots, aircraft, personnel and branding, was ensured by binding, irrevocable commitments by those upfront buyers including board approvals.

    The history of the EU’s treatment of Ryanair’s two offers for Aer Lingus conclusively proves that this prohibition is a “political” decision to pander to the vested interests of the Irish government, Ryanair argued in a strongly worded statement.

    The Irish government maintained a 25 per cent stake within the carrier.
