NZ to co-host ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015’s 49 match schedule is determined to be played across 14 cities in New Zealand and Australia from 14 February – 29 March 2015.
New Zealand will play host to each competing nation in the course of the tournament and it’ll hold important matches consisting of the contest opener, 1 / 4 and a semi-final.

The announcements were made at simultaneous launch events held in Wellington and Melbourne, and attended by the respective Prime Ministers of both host nations.

Key matches
Christchurch is scheduled to host the hole match of the tournament featuring New Zealand against Sri Lanka, while there’ll be 1 / 4-final at Wellington Regional Stadium and a semi-final at Auckland’s Eden Park.

The final might be played on the Melbourne Cricket Ground, because it was when both countries last co-hosted the tournament in 1992.
“This is a once in a generation opportunity to peer the most efficient valuable players and best teams going face to face in our backyard, and we have now worked hard to make the tournament as accessible as possible by spreading the games around the two host countries,” said Therese Walsh, Head of latest Zealand for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 local organising committee.

“The result’s an excellent one for brand new Zealand cricket and fans all over the country. We’ve every team playing here, equal numbers of host cities and pool games, and what are bound to be fiercely contested quarter-final and semi-final.
“This can be a summer that inspires young cricketers and give lasting memories for Kiwi fans and families.”

Host cities
Each of the tournament’s 14 host cities will host three pool games. The seven host cities in New Zealand are Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, Napier, Nelson and Wellington. The Australia host cities are Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
The two pools for the initial stage of the tournament, in accordance with the Reliance ICC ODI rankings as on 31 December 2012, are:
Pool A: England, Australia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Qualifier 2 and Qualifier 3
Pool B: South Africa, India, Pakistan, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Ireland (Qualifier 1) and Qualifier 4.

Cricket magic
“Having all of those teams play across our seven host cities puts the magic of the ICC Cricket World Cup nearby of most New Zealanders,” Therese Walsh said.
ICC President Alan Isaac, who attended the development launch in Wellington, said: “I’m delighted to join this historic occasion as today we officially start the countdown to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, an event that, over the last 40 years, has become a very global event.

“ICC events have established a different place within the cricket calendar, and, as we’ve seen at our latest events in Sri Lanka and the uk, players, sponsors, media, fans and supporters from everywhere in the world desire to join the spectacle.

“Sport is synonymous with life in Australia and New Zealand, and both countries boast the superior facilities on the earth. With the area Cup returning to those shores for the primary time since 1992, i’m sure it will become an event to bear in mind.”

ICC Cricket World Cup 2015
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 is contested by the ten Full Members of the International Cricket Council (ICC), along with four Associate and Affiliate Members that qualify during the ICC Cricket World Cup qualifying programme.

The result of the ICC World Cricket League Championship 2011-2013 will produce the 1st two qualifying teams, with Ireland already progressing to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 earlier this year and one more qualifier to be known by October.

The final two spots shall be determined throughout the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier to be hosted in New Zealand during January and February 2014.
